The 7th day Sabbath
You may note that I have done several articles on the 7th day Sabbath. Why is this? Because as a former 1st day (Sun-day) worshiper, when I decided to study the bible outside of what my Pentecostal denomination taught, it was made obvious to me that YHWH considers those who keep his Sabbaths as his people (Exo 31:13, 31:17, Eze 20:12, 20:20).
Guess what? I was determined that if I was going to give up my old life for this faith, I might as well go all the way. Imagine giving up so many pleasures of sin only to be rejected in the end because I still did not give up enough! Might as well I had stayed in sin. So the better choice was to go all the way.
So this post, and all other of my posts for that matter, are not to tear down Sunday worshipers, but to open their eyes that may be blinded by religion as I once was.
The Sabbath marks the difference between his people and those who follow the way of the heathen, such as those who reject the Shabbat and worship on the “venerable day of the sun.”
Deu 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
Deu 12:31 Thou shalt not do so unto YHWH thy Elohiym: for every abomination to YHWH, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
Deu 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
Watch the video below to see where new covenant believers are told we MUST keep the Sabbath in our covenant.
How can Yahusha be Master (Lord) of the Sabbath if there is no Sabbath?
Anyway, today my focus continues to highlight the errors of those whose response to the Sabbath is that “”Jesus” is the “Lord” of the Sabbath.” Here it is in Mark 2:28
Mar 2:27 — Mar 2:28
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:Therefore the Son of man is (Master) Lord also of the sabbath.
The “”Jesus” is “Lord” of the Sabbath. That means no more Sabbath because he is our rest.”
The above verses are used by Sunday worshippers as a reason for not keeping the Sabbath. The understanding is, he is “Lord” so ee can do whatever we wish. Now, does that sound like the will of the Father?
But “Jesus” is my rest!
They then move to Hebrews 4:8-11 to say Jesus is their rest. That means since he is “Lord” of the Sabbath, if we rest in him, we keep the Sabbath. What a brilliant example of using scripture to justify our disobedience?!
Now we have already looked at Hebrews 4 in the video above, but let us give a summary.
In it, we showed the error in translation of the name Yahusha (Joshua) in verse 8. The Messiah Yahusha and Joshua, the son of Nun have the same Hebrew name.
Heb 4:8 (KJV) For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
Heb 4:8 (ESV) For if Joshua had given them rest, God[2] would not have spoken of another day later on.
Heb 4:8 (NIV) For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.
Imperfect Translation
Bear in mind that no English translation is perfect. The English language CANNOT adequately translate the original Hebrew and Greek. So if you were under the impression that KJV is infallible, you are wrong. There are several errors there, although that is the version I use. You simply have to be aware of the errors. The infallible word is in the original manuscripts, not in the English translations.
Now, if we look at the context coming from Hebrews 3 into Hebrews 4, we see that it was describing the journey of the children of Israel in the wilderness. Verse 8 was erroneously translated to the made up name “Jesus,” In reality, it should have been Joshua.
Some translations have corrected the error, but the KJV has not.
So this debunks the idea that “Jesus” is our rest as Master (Lord) of the Sabbath as it was not referring to.
There remains a keeping of the Sabbath
To make it worse, in the video, we also looked at the Greek word sabbatismos, which is used only once in the Bible as below:
Hebrews 4:9
There remaineth therefore a rest (sabbatismos) to the people of YHWH.
Now what does sabbatismos mean?
Sabbatismos: a sabbath rest
Original Word: σαββατισμός, οῦ, ὁ
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: sabbatismos
Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos’)
Short Definition: a Sabbath rest
Definition: a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.
So verse 9 is really saying there remains a Sabbath keeping to the people of YHWH.
Now that we have dealt with the error, let us now ask a simple question to summarize the fallacy.
How can the Messiah be Master of something that doesn’t exist?
How can I be in charge of a company that doesn’t exist? Then I am not in charge but merely a false pretender if I claim to be in charge of a non-existent entity.
Likewise, there must be a Sabbath for the Messiah to be Master (Lord) of the Sabbath.
If the Sabbath is done away, then several verses in the Bible would have to be ripped out.
It is a similar situation we have when we say the Messiah rose on a Sunday and so the Sunday becomes the Sabbath. We looked at that here.
Can a 1st day (Sunday) be a Sabbath?
Now can a Sunday be a Sabbath? Yes. An annual Sabbath also known as a feast or High Sabbath can fall on a Sunday. Indeed Pentecost always falls on a Sunday. However, there is nothing in the bible that changed the weekly 7th day Sabbath. It always falls on the 7th day, not the 1st day.
Sabbath must be the 7th day
The 7th day is the only day that YHWH gave a name. It is the only day that he made qodesh/holy/hallowed. That means the Shabbat cannot be changed to another day. It must be the 7th day. Therefore the sanctity of the Sabbath cannot be transferred to another day.
What did the Messiah mean by “he is Master of the Sabbath?”
So “”Jesus is “Lord” of the Sabbath” means he is Master of the Sabbath because:
Mat 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
Now all things delivered unto him include the Sabbath. The Pharisees had added to the Sabbath, making it a burden. Their way of Sabbath keeping had become the standard, but it was more than what Torah stated or intended. The Messiah was given authority to show them how to keep the Sabbath, removing the “leaven” that was added. See Mat 16:6.
By the way, it is the same thing they, the Jews did with the Sabbath, taking it from evening to evening instead of from morning to evening (12-hour Sabbath) as was biblically kept. Now modern believers keep an evening to evening Sabbath not realizing it is yet another case of the Pharisees adding to the Sabbath. See When does the Sabbath begin? below.
Messiah cannot be Master over that which does not exist
So, in summary, the Messiah cannot be master over what does not exist. There is nowhere in the Bible which tells us the Sabbath has been changed from the 7th day.
He is master of the Sabbath because he came to show us how to keep the Sabbath. Indeed, this is summarized in the Matthew account. Sabbath keeping must not be legalistic. It must include the weightier things of the law: faith, judgment, mercy (Mat 23:23).
Mat 12:7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
Mat 12:8 For the Son of man is Master even of the sabbath day.
He cannot be Master of a sabbath day that does not exist. Therefore:
Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of YHWH thy Elohiym: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days YHWH made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore YHWH blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
That command above? It has not changed. It is pretty straightforward. It is YHWH’S sabbath (verse 10). How dare we dishonor him by erasing it with our traditions!
