LUNAR SABBATH ERROR REVEALED ONCE AGAIN
Lunar sabbath error revealed? We have done several posts on the sabbath, as well as the calendar itself. Much of the sabbath posts are based on the “competition” between the seventh day (called Saturday) versus the lunar sabbath.
Interestingly, for this search, this writer was not hard and fast on either understanding of the sabbath. As a result, I embarked upon this journey seeking to prove all things and hold fast that which is good. So whatever results I got? I definitely did not have a predetermined conclusion.
Consequently, we have been rewarded with much understanding of how the ancient biblical calendar worked, as well as the true sabbaths that were kept in bible times.
THE FIRST WEEK OF THE MONTH
But today, we are going to do some simple math that will again, disprove the lunar sabbath.
The bottom line is based on the lunar sabbath foundation, that the first day of the month is new moon day. To get to the sabbath, we add six working days, then the seventh is a sabbath.
As a result, the first week of the month actually has eight days (new moon day + 6 working days + sabbath day). So if we can prove (using the bible) that the sabbath does not fall in that eight day cycle (in the first week of the month), then the lunar sabbath has been debunked.
So we will need a little help from David, Jonathan and Ahimelech the priest.

NEW MOON DAY
We are going to look into 1 Samuel 20, when David was supposed to go to “meat” with Saul. However, Jonathan (Saul’s son) partnered with David to figure out if Saul was really determined to kill David.
David himself was supposed to dine with them on the new moon, and that is where we begin our count.
David and Jonathan agreed that David would not come to eat (starting on the new moon) but he would hide in the bushes for three (3) days.
So let us begin our count of three (3) days at the new moon. I will only post the relevant verses that will prove the lunar sabbath error. You may go and read it all in detail.
1Sa 20:5 And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.
So what happened on the first day (new moon day)?
1Sa 20:24 So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat.
1Sa 20:25 And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul’s side, and David’s place was empty.
1Sa 20:26 Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean.
THE SECOND DAY OF THE MONTH
Now on the second day of the month, Saul now realized that something was wrong.
1Sa 20:27 And it came to pass on the morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David’s place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day?
1Sa 20:28 And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem:
1Sa 20:29 And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king’s table.
1Sa 20:30 Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother’s nakedness?
1Sa 20:33 And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David.
THE THIRD DAY OF THE MONTH?
Now on the third day of the month was when Jonathan met with David (as they previously agreed). Now this below happened on the second day:
1Sa 20:34 And Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no meat the second day of the new moon; for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.
And on the third day? Jonathan wen to meet David as planned.
1Sa 20:35 And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.
DAVID DEPARTED ON THE THIRD DAY
Now upon hearing the news, David realized that he had to escape immediately.
1Sa 20:41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.
1Sa 20:42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of YAHUAH, saying, YAHUAH be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed (H1980): and Jonathan went into the city.
Let us look at the meaning of departed.
departed

DAVID AND AHIMELECH
So Jonathan departed back into the city, but David went out abroad speedily, and we are told where he went in the next chapter.
1Sa 21:1 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?
1Sa 21:2 And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.
David went to the priest because he was hungry.
1Sa 21:3 Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present.
1Sa 21:4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.
HALLOWED BREAD OR THE SHEW BREAD
Now what is that hallowed bread?
It is called the shew bread.
Lev 24:5 And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake.
Lev 24:6 And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before YAHUAH.
Lev 24:7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto YAHUAH.
What is the significant thing about the shew bread?
Lev 24:8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before YAHUAH continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.
Lev 24:9 And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of YAHUAH made by fire by a perpetual statute.
- They are set in order every sabbath…continually!
- The priests shall eat it.
IDENTIFYING THE SABBATH DAY
Now this is very important as we identify the sabbath day.
Now remember, David spent the first 3 days of the month in the field. We are going to see how long it was since he left Jonathan. Remember, he left Jonathan on the third day of the month.
1Sa 21:4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.
1Sa 21:5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out (H3318), and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.
Since he came out? What does that term “came out’ mean?
H3318
יָצָא
yâtsâ’
yaw-tsaw’
A primitive root; to go (causatively bring) out, in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively, direct and proximate: – X after, appear, X assuredly, bear out, X begotten, break out, bring forth (out, up), carry out, come (abroad, out, thereat, without), + be condemned, depart (-ing, -ure), draw forth, in the end, escape, exact, fail, fall (out), fetch forth (out), get away (forth, hence, out), (able to, cause to, let) go abroad (forth, on, out), going out, grow, have forth (out), issue out, lay (lie) out, lead out, pluck out, proceed, pull out, put away, be risen, X scarce, send with commandment, shoot forth, spread, spring out, stand out, X still, X surely, take forth (out), at any time, X to [and fro], utter.
Total KJV occurrences: 1068
This word yâtsâ’ means depart, come abroad, going out, come out. David said it was 3 days since he departed. But departed from where?
1Sa 20:42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.
It was 3 days since David departed from Jonathan.
Now remember he departed (1 Sam 20:5) on the 3rd day of the month.
If it was 3 days since he left the meeting with Jonathan, that means at that time (when he was speaking to Ahimilech), was six days from new moon day (3 days waiting on Jonathan + 3 days before reaching Ahimilech in Nob).
But the day in which they were speaking (the 6th day of the month) was a sabbath!
How do we know?
The shew bread!
HOW THE SHEW BREAD SHOWS US THE SABBATH DAY
Next, we go back to Torah to see how the bread was treated and what the priest said about the bread. This will let us know the sabbath day.
Now what happened in the case of David and his men?
1Sa 21:6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before YAHUAH, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.
Look at this part of the verse: “that was taken from before YAHUAH, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.”
Every week the shew bread was replaced and the old ones eaten (taken from before YAHUAH). It was replaced with hot bread (fresh). So the day is eaten is the day it is replaced with hot bread.
How are we sure it must be a sabbath?
They could not eat it on any other day, as the bread must be before YAHUAH continually and can only be replaced on the sabbath (Lev 24:8)! So, if eaten any other day than the sabbath, the priest would break the commandment of having the bread before him continually.
Lev 24:8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before YAHUAH continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.
THOUGH IT WERE SANCTIFIED THIS DAY IN THE VESSEL
Another way the shew bread gives confirmation that this incident with Ahimelech took place on a Sabbath, was this comment by David.
1Sa 21:5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out (H3318), and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.
So we have to ask ourselves, which day is the bread sanctified in the vessel?
Which day is “this day?”
Again we go to our same confirmation verse in the Torah:
Lev 24:8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before YAHUAH continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.
The shew bread (hallowed bread) is sanctified every sabbath. That means that when David said sanctified this day in the vessel, “this day” was a sabbath!

CONCLUSION? THE SABBATH WAS THE SIXTH DAY OF THE MONTH!
So without a doubt, that day was a Sabbath.
But guess what?
It was only the sixth day of the month!!!
1Sa 21:5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.
So another lunar sabbath error has been revealed again.
Remember, as long as we can prove that a sabbath fell on a day which was not the 8th, 15th, 22nd or 29th of the month, then we have debunked the lunar sabbath.
Bear in mind, their rule is, sabbaths only fall on those days of the month (8th, 15th, 22nd or 29th). So, we just proved it did not fall on the 8th day of the month, but on the 6th day.
Hence? Another lunar sabbath error revealed through David, Saul, Jonathan and Ahimelech.
All praises to the Most High.
