REPENT?
So you want to understand what it truly means to repent? Well, “repent” is something we hear almost every day, but what does this even mean? After reading this, it should be clear to you why and how to repent.
MEANING OF REPENT

A primitive root; properly to sigh, that is, breathe strongly; by implication to be sorry, that is, (in a favorable sense) to pity, console or (reflexively) rue; or (unfavorably) to avenge (oneself): – comfort (self), ease [one’s self], repent (-er, -ing, self).
DICTIONARY MEANING OF REPENT
SIN WRITTEN IN OUR DNA?
The human being is similar to a computer. When we sin and do not repent, it is written in our memory. If not stopped, it will eventually become a routine, a weakness, written in our DNA, then becoming a way of life and entrenched in us as iniquity. It is then passed down through our generations. This is what the Most High means by this declaration below in bold letters:
Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Exo 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
This is why when Daniel, Judith and Nehemiah were praying, they said this:
Dan_9:16 O YAHUAH, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.
Jdt_7:28 We take to witness against you the heaven and the earth, and our Aluah and Adonay of our fathers, which punisheth us according to our sins and the sins of our fathers, that he do not according as we have said this day.
Neh_9:2 And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
And also, that is why we have to remember the sins of our Fathers written in the scriptures, and repent ourselves of them that strive not to do them, as we were warned below:
2Ch_30:7 And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as ye see.

NO UNRIGHTEOUS PERSON SHALL INHERIT THE KINGDOM
The problem with this life? As sinners, we are slated for destruction (the wages of sin is death – Romans 6:23), as we will all be judged for our deeds. No unrighteous person shall inherit the kingdom.
1Co 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of Aluah? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
1Co 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of Aluah.
HOW REPENTANCE PURGES THE DNA, REMOVING INIQUITY
So, having our DNA encoded to commit sin to satisfy the body is surely getting us to the lake of fire. But there is only one way to get rid of this sin, and the process begins with repentance.
True repentance purges the DNA, if done right. So? We must understand repentance.
Repentance involves:
1. Being sincerely regretful for the sin or iniquity
2. Confessing of the sin
3. Making amends if possible
4. Afflict oneself (through fasting)
5. Petition the Father (through prayer)
6. Resolve to never do the sin/iniquity again
OVERCOMING SIN ON OUR OWN
Now that is the bottom line. This is very hard to do on one’s own. I had tried many times to stop sinning on my own, by my own determination and power. Then when I came to the word, I got the understanding why.
Rom 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of Aluah after the inward man:
Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Rom 7:25 I thank Aluah through Yahusha HaMashiach our Master. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of Aluah; but with the flesh the law of sin.
It was not until I turned to the Messiah Yahusha that I was able to get over these iniquities.
Indeed, the Bible tells us that if we are in Messiah, we are new creatures. That is what we need. We need to be renewed so we do not go back to doing the same thing we repented from.
2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in HaMashiach, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
So when we say repent, we must then follow the Messiah Yahusha or else, chances are, we will go back into sin.
So how does the Messiah help us in repentance?
HAMASHIACH TOLD US TO DENY SELF OR WE CANNOT FOLLOW HIM
Remember where it all begins. You are in a battle with yourself to overcome your lusts and desires, which result in anger, envy, disobedience, malice, pride, hatred, strife, wrath, fornication, uncleanness and other sins.
So you have to go to the start, deny self, repent and be baptized if it is possible for you.
Mat 16:24 Then said Yahusha unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Know that you are walking in a body of sin, a body that is a magnet for sin, and there is a light in you that must overpower the darkness of sinfulness.
So the desires of the self must be minimized or else the demanding self will lead us into sin.
BAPTISM
When the Israelites were in sin and asked what should they do (to overcome)? This was the response:
Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahusha HaMashiach for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of Ruach HaQadosh.
Someway, somehow, in the spiritual realm, baptism is a requirement that spiritually cleanses us of past sins.
RECEIVE THE GIFT OF RUACH HAQADOSH (HOLY SPIRIT)
Repentance and baptism totally cleanses the DNA in an instant, giving remission for sins that are past.
Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in HaMashiach Yahusha:
Rom 3:25 Whom Aluah hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of Aluah;
Then, we receive a gift: Ruach HaQadosh (Holy Spirit), which helps to ensure we can walk in righteousness.
WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE
So now we must walk in newness of life, because if we go back into sin, it is like a dog returning to wallow in his vomit. It is like someone who got over a cigarette addiction thinking he cannot be overcome by taking cocaine.
So we must walk led by spiritual desires, not by worldly desires. We must remember that our worldly desires are what kept us blinded in sin.
Ephesians 5:18-21
[18] And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
[19] Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to YAHUAH;
[20] Giving thanks always for all things unto Aluah and the Father in the name of our Master Yahusha HaMashiach;
[21] Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of Aluah.
GATHER TOGETHER WITH OTHER LIKE-MINDED BELIEVERS
The last thing you would want to do at this time is to be on your own. We live in a sinful world, and David told us from long ago in the first verse of the first psalm, that we must never be in bad company.
Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
So we must be gathered now to perfect holiness in the fear of YAHUAH, so we do not slide back into sin.
2Co_7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of Aluah.
1Co_1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Master Yahusha HaMashiach, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
And the book of Ephesians told us that we as saints must be perfected by those given to us to help our perfection. As believers we are directed by those who have rule over us.
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of HaMashiach:
These who have the rule over us are the leaders of true set apart assemblies who are charged to watch over your soul, so you are directed in the right path.
Do not let anyone deceive you into thinking you can make it on your own. Anyone, even a sinner can appear perfect to himself whilst on his own. But it is when you allow an assembly to rule over you and to perfect yourself among other persons that you can truly be perfected and ready for the kingdom.
Now when I say “assembly” I do not mean the evil Christian church system. But you must know those chosen to lead you to the kingdom. They are charged to watch over your soul and direct you in the right path! If they fail, they must give an account for it.
Heb_13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
Remember, it was prophesied that in the end…
Isa 30:19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt weep no more: he will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer thee.
Isa 30:20 And though YAHUAH give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:
Isa 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
And this will be the result…
Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
CONCLUSION
So if we walk in the spirit, then we will not be led by our carnal, freshly desires and so we will be able to walk in righteousness.
Galatians 5:16-17
[16] This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
[17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
So, there you have it. This is a blueprint for repentance. You should understand what it means to repent, and how your choices can rip yourself out of the hand of the adversary, that is, remove yourself from under the power of sin.
