Did God Create Light Twice?

DID GOD CREATE LIGHT TWICE?

Did God create light twice? Why did he create light on one day, then create the sun and the moon on another?

The Bible is a mysterious book with hidden secrets so that only those to whom it is given will understand. Moreover, none of us now will be given a full understanding of all things. As a result I will not understand all things, neither will you.

It is therefore easy for an atheist or agnostic to collect all the hard-to-explain things in the Bible and say the Bible is a fallacy because we cannot answer it. However, we know in part (1 Cor 13:9, 12).

YAHUAH is not a textbook that we study and regurgitate what we learned. Great is the mystery of godliness.

However, the Most High will give understanding in part to each of his chosen people, so each of us cannot exalt ourselves in believing that we know everything and do not need anyone.

Just a Word Banner day begins in darkness or light
Certainly, though, he will not give his deep things to unbelievers (including Christians). As he said in Daniel 12:10, none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. This is confirmed in 2 Esdras 14.

In fact, Ezra was given the commission to write to write 204 books in 40 days. At the end, the Most High told him this:

Ezra 14:45 And it came to pass, when the forty days were filled, that the Highest spake, saying, The first that thou hast written publish openly, that the worthy and unworthy may read it:
46 But keep the seventy last, that thou mayest deliver them only to such as be wise among the people:
47 For in them is the spring of understanding, the fountain of wisdom, and the stream of knowledge.

What is this saying? He leaves the mysteries for the chosen among his people (the children of Israel) to understand. These mysteries cannot be understood by the unworthy, which again includes the lawless Christians. Neither can it be understood by blatant sinners.

Why am I emphasizing this point? There is an entertainment personality in Jamaica who has an online presence in which he tries to prove that the Bible is a fallacy. This entertainer became a Christian and no doubt found out that Christianity is a lie.

In his search for “God,” “Mr Vegas,” as he is called, ended up in Egypt, now preaching that he is “God.”

One such mystery he is asking Christian pastors and none can explain is the question of whether YAHUAH created light twice, or as Christians like to say, “did God create light twice?” This, of course, is based on the creation account in the book of Genesis.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

Let’s take a look at the creation of light and of day and night recorded in Genesis :

Gen 1:3 — Gen 1:4
And Elohim said, Let there be light: and there was light (Hebrew: “ore”). And Elohim saw the light, that it was good: and Elohim divided the light from the darkness.

Genesis 1:5
And Elohim called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

It is extremely important to get the exact meaning of words. We must not use the inferior English language as our basis for interpreting scripture.

This is because the words in Genesis were originally written in Hebrew. Therefore, let us look at the real meaning of the word:

H216
אוֹר
‘ôr
ore
From H215; illumination or (concretely) luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.): – bright, clear, + day, light (-ning), morning, sun.
Total KJV occurrences: 122

That was describing THE CREATION OF LIGHT. That light refers to a source of illumination. It refers to the light itself, as opposed to a luminous body that produces light.

Important to note that that light source was spiritual at the time, coming straight from YAHUAH. He provided the light for the world.

LIGHTS IN THE FIRMAMENT

So then, we are told of more light creation in the book of Genesis? Surely it cannot be that he created light twice! But did he?

Gen 1:14 — Gen 1:18
And Elohim said, Let there be lights (light was already created from verse 3) in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night (day and night were created from the first day); and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

And let them be for lights (Hebrew: maor) in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth (natural light): and it was so.

And Elohim made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

And Elohim set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and Elohim saw that it was good.

So let us see the real meaning of the word light used here to see if it is the same light that was made from day one (verse 4).

H3974
מְאֹרָה    מְאוֹרָה    מָאֹר    מָאוֹר
mâ’ôr    mâ’ôr    me’ôrâh    me’ôrâh
(1,2) maw-ore’, (3,4) meh-o-raw’
From H215; properly a luminous body or luminary, that is, (abstractly) light (as an element); figuratively brightness, that is, cheerfulness; specifically a chandelier: – bright, light.
Total KJV occurrences: 19

If you look carefully, you will see that “maor” created on the 4th day refers to a physical source of light, a luminous body (such as sun. moon, stars, chandelier).

This is differentiated from the light (ore) created in verse 3 (day one), which refers to the light itself that is produced by a light source (the body that produces the light).

full moon between the hills

So there is nowhere in scripture above that says he created light another time. Instead, he let there be light first, then created physical SOURCES OF LIGHT to produce the light (that was created from day one) for the world.

This is extremely critical. He created light first on day one, then SOURCES OF LIGHT on day four.

Very important to note, so we repeat: he didn’t create light twice. He first created light itself, then sources of light, or luminous bodies that produce light. Before he created these luminous bodies, he was the one who lit the world.

Case solved, but that is not enough for us. Although that is what we came to prove, why not let us dig deeper?

WHAT KIND OF LIGHT DID HE CREATE ON THE FIRST DAY?

But if he created light on the first day and sources of light on the 4th day, what kind of light did he create on the first day?

1Jn 1:5  This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that Elohiym is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1Jn 1:6  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1Jn 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Yahusha HaMashiach his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

YAHUAH is a spirit. He is also light. He created the light of life on the first day. That is why the light of life could sustain life (Gen 1:11-12) until he created light sources on the fourth day.

SPIRITUAL LIGHT

If we are called to walk in the light as he is in the light, that means the light of life (John 8:12) that was given on the 1st day was spiritual light!

This is the spiritual light that was used to light the world before mankind was created. This spiritual light is absolutely necessary for us to grow and prosper in the spirit. It is the same light spoken of here:

Psa_112:4  Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
Psa_118:27  Elohiym is YAHUAH, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.
Psa_119:130  The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Joh_8:12  Then spake Yahusha again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

NATURAL LIGHT

The light created on the 4th day is the physical natural light that comes from natural light sources (maor) that can be seen by all. Both the worthy and the unworthy will benefit from this natural light that lights the world. This natural light is absolutely necessary for natural life to grow and prosper.

The light (ore) from day one has a different light source, which comes from the Most High himself.

It is now light for the soul and spirit whilst that created on day 4 is light for the flesh.

PURPOSE OF THE LIGHT CREATED ON THE 4TH DAY

Much information is right there before us. It is surprising how the Bible uses so few words to say so much. If we look at these verses, we see why the lights were created on the 4th day.

Gen 1:17-18
And Elohim set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and Elohim saw that it was good.

The lights were created to

  1. To give light on the earth (to divide time and to be for signs and for his feasts (seasons) – Gen 1:14).
  2. Rule over day and night (sun rules the day, moon rules the night).
  3. To divide light from darkness (without the lights created on the 4th day, the world would always be in the constant light that was created on the 1st day).

But it gets even more interesting.

AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING, SO SHALL IT BE IN THE END

Did God create light twice? Let’s take it a step further and see what will happen in the end and how it matches what happened in the beginning.

One secret in understanding the bible is knowing this little golden rule: the end explains the beginning and the beginning explains the end. Genesis explains Revelation and vice versa (as it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end).

Revelation 21:23
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the splendour of YHWH did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof (spiritual light).

1 Corinthians 15:22
For as in Adam all die, even so in the Messiah shall all be made alive.

In the end, it will return to what was in the beginning. The spiritual light of life (created on the first day) will lighten the city of New Jerusalem.

There will once again (as in the beginning) not be any need for the physical light sources. The Most High will constantly illuminate the city.

But let us take it even further while we are at it.

NATURAL BODY AND SPIRITUAL BODY

To live in this SPIRITUAL light (light of life), we will be transformed into a new spiritual body. Then, we will be beings with a completely spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 15:44
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

1Co 15:51 — 1Co 15:54
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Without a physical body, death has no power over us and we have no need for physical light sources that sustain these physical bodies. Death will then be swallowed up in victory.

That is how we will be able to live completely in the light of the Most High.

THE LIGHT OF LIFE

Hence, the light of life (spiritual light) will remove the need for the natural light sources that were created on the 4th day.

The spiritual light of life will, in the end, be the only light source. As it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end. That is what the following verse means. Note well the term “light of life.”

John 8:12
Then spake Yahshua again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world (spiritual): he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the LIGHT OF LIFE.

The “light of life” is that light that was created on the first day. It is a spiritual light.

Without Yahusha (the light of the world), we are in darkness and will not be given life in the new Jerusalem. Remember, Yahusha has the seven Spirits of YAHUAH.

Psalms 36:9
For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

We need the light of life, otherwise the only light we will live in is the natural lights created on the 4th day. If we die in darkness, we will forever be in darkness.

WE MUST BE BORN AGAIN TO BE IN SPIRITUAL LIGHT

That is why we must be born again. It is not enough to be a believer, to be a religious person. We must be converted from children of darkness into children of light.

John 3:3
And Yahshua answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of Elohiym.

We must now be led by the Spirit of life.

Joh 3:8  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Romans 8:9
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of YAHUAH dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Messiah, he is none of his.

Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of Elohiym, they are the sons of Elohiym.

We must be led by the spiritual light.

CHILDREN OF LIGHT

So we must be children of light (the spiritual light of life) for us to enter the kingdom.

Colossians 1:13
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness (into light), and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

John 12:36
While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Yahusha, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

Ephesians 5:8
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in YAHUAH: walk as children of light:

Romans 13:12
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

WHY DO WE NEED TO WALK IN THE LIGHT?

We have to be transformed in this world in order to inherit the promises that are to come. To walk in the light in the end, we first have to show that we can walk in the light in this age.

If we do, as the previous verses encourage us to do, then this will be what we will inherit: the city of New Jerusalem, the promised eternal kingdom.

There will be no more physical light (that was created on the 4th day). All that will be left will be the spiritual; light. Strive to walk in this light.

Rev 21:22  And I saw no temple therein: for the YAHUAH El Shaddai and the Lamb are the temple of it.
Rev 21:23  And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
Rev 21:24  And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
Rev 21:25  And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
Rev 21:26  And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.

Those who do not have the spiritual light of life that was created on the first day, cannot enter the kingdom.

Rev 21:27  And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Hope this makes sense and answers the question: Did God create light twice? Shalom.

DISCLAIMER: In this post, at times we have used the false title “God” in reference to the Most High, as this is the term he is erroneously called by most people. Of course, his title is Elohiym or Aluahiym (ancient Paleo Hebrew). We use “God” for SEO purposes, so this post can turn up in search results so that Christians can be edified (1 Cor 9:19-23).
